At the AHIA 2011 Conference, Bernard Salt discussed the demographic outlook for Health Insurance in Australia in the 2010s.
Bernard highlighted that increasing life expectancy is creating new stages of the lifecycle and new markets for health insurance and that the boomer and pre-boomer households are the ones that spend most on medical insurance in Australia.
Over the next 10 years, Bernard anticipated demand for health cover and health services around changes in the Australian demographic profile including:
- Kids and teenagers – Family health cover and Child healthcare
- Young adults – Singles/couples cover, Obstetrics and Sports injuries
- Mature adults – Top hospital cover, Knee replacements and Weight loss
- Retirees – Retirees health cover, Heart conditions and Chronic disease
